‘People who have done some watercolour painting often find it difficult to believe that these were done in transparent watercolour. These two ‘studies-which-grew’ were quite challenging to do, due to the notoriously difficult nature of this medium. With watercolour, I do not use any opaque nor white paint – thus each highlight needs to be painted around, using the white of the paper as the light tones – if you lose it, if the paint moves over there instead of over here – the highlight is gone forever. In addition, if a mistake is made, it is mostly unfixable, since the medium is staining and transparent – you can’t remove it nor paint over it. (I chuckle whenever I hear someone claim how relaxing watercolour painting is –maybe their style!)’

The Limited Edition lithographs Pelican Studies I & II are reproductions of watercolour paintings by Judy Minor. These have been printed on quality acid-free stock, using a state-of-the-art, traditional style Heidelberg press. The artist has personally approved each stage of the printing process. Each of the 500 prints (250 each image) is inspected, then hand-numbered and signed by the artist. There are also 50 (25 of each image) signed and numbered artist’s proofs. Printing plates are subsequently destroyed. |
