The prints on this page are relief prints for which the press plates have been designed and inscribed by Judy Minor. She has inked and hand pulled each print herself; in the ‘Canadiana’ Series she has additionally applied watercolour. All have been printed on quality acid-free stock. Each print is individually signed by her; some are also titled. |

“Although I’m a painter more than a printmaker, I enjoy doing these kinds of prints; it’s very satisfying (after applying a lot of ‘elbow grease’) to peel the art paper away from the plate and see what has resulted. Prints where the artist makes the design, inscribes and inks the plates, and pulls the print are called ‘original handpulled’ prints. (Some artists subcontract out much or part of this work, though.) I do not number my handpulled prints; artists who seek to make each print that they pull as similar as possible will number their prints successively. Conversely, I seek to experiment colourwise and often make each one different. I have also preferred to keep this work primitive and unpolished, which to me has its own appeal.” “I prefer not to go any ‘higher tech’ than this. There are health concerns (for the artist) once one starts experimenting with metal plates and acids and so forth (the risk is very severe and also cumulative through a lifetime).” |

Judy wrote and illustrated a children’s book, Popsicles for Breakfast, which is used in several hospitals in the province to prepare toddlers for surgery. |
